The testimony that Sandra Fluke offered in Congress dealt solely with the therapeutic uses of contraceptives in (among other medical conditions) cancer treatment of the uterus, ovaries or vagina.

She testified solely about her friend, a fellow student who could not obtain contraceptives under her university health plan to treat ovarian cysts. The recommended therapeutic dosage under this protocol is 800 mg. of Danezol (non-estrogen hormonal compound) vs. 200 mg. if used solely for birth control purposes. Eight hundred mg. requires four pills per day and is used in concert with an additional estrogen-based contraceptive pill.

The total cost of this therapeutic protocol could quite easily reach $3000. Her friend(whom she testified was gay BTW and did not need the pills for birth control purposes) was unable to afford this recommended prescription cost. As a result, she was forced to undergo surgery resulting in the loss of an ovary.

Opinons on this issue may differ, but the facts remain the same. Ms. Fluke said absolutely nothing about her own use or any of the other female students’ use or costs of contraceptives for birth control purposes.

It pays sometimes to look at the record instead of just getting your information from shock radio.
