Re “Latter Day American Hero Runs Patriotism Into Style Again”
[Editor’s Note: Ms. Ferrara, mother of the late U.S. Army Lt. Matt Ferrara, 24, killed seven years ago in Afghanistan, hosted a barbecue last weekend for families who had lost loved ones similarly. She also alludes to Army veteran Mike Viti’s patriotic cross country journey (www.mikeshikingforheroes.com).]
I think last weekend at our barbecue was the first time we had met most of the people who came that day. Isn’t that something?
The boys (hiker Mike Viti and his team) stayed over a couple of nights since the hikes are very short distances compared to travel by vehicle of course.
After work on Monday, I hiked the last few miles with them watching the sunset off Torrance Beach.
Not as spectacular as they can be, but nice rays reaching to the ocean from the clouds.
I really enjoyed meeting those young men. It restores faith in humanity to find good people, right?
So here are a couple of crazy findings. Mike has the same birthday (Oct. 14) as Matt.
The day he was at Seaside Heroes Park was the day Matt’s name came up to be written on the flag.
Not planned, of course.
Just a wonderful coincidence. I wrote his name on the flag at the park that day.
Happy July 4!
