Re “Gourley vs. Mielke, the Next Fight”
I don't understand what School Board member Steve Gourley is trying to accomplish with his personal attacks on and ridiculing of David Mielke, the President of the Teachers Union, in public.
The only issue I have ever had with Mr. Mielke as a Teachers Union president is when — in some of his presentations — he gets carried away with the facts and delves into the realm of using propaganda as a tool of public persuasion.
And for which, when it has been pointed out in the past, he has later publicly apologized for overstepping.
I’m not sure just what Mr. Gourley expects from Mr. Mielke as a union president. What I expect from Mr. Mielke is to be truthful, which, I believe, he has been.
I don’t expect him as a union leader to inform the public of the whole truth, though; that’s not his job.
As a union spokesman, his job is to put forth the union’s best, most persuasive argument for those in the court of public opinion to take up the union side and put pressure on Board members to go along with the union position on an issue.
All I can say is, if Mr . Gourley continues his rather rabid, personal attacks on David Mielke, he will surely leave behind a terribly blemished legacy as a Board member.
