Re “Sahli-Wells Tells Why Both Elections Should Be Merged”
It's interesting that City Council candidate Meghan Sahli-Wells cites cost and “voter fatigue” as two reasons to consolidate the School Board and Council elections.
I will stipulate the cost factor.
But democracy isn't cheap.
I would be willing to place a bet that she is the only candidate who thinks this is a good idea.
I would even go as far as to say zero current School Board members would share her thoughts.
Voter fatigue? I'm glad there's at least one Council candidate with a sense of humor. About 18 percent of registered voters cast a ballot in November's School Board election.
Roughly a similar percentage cast a ballot for the last Council election. And guess what?
It’s the same 18 percent voting in both.
No fatigue there, Ms. Sahli-Wells.
