Re “Griping Officers Should Be More Attentive to Their Duties — Pedersen”
I am very familiar with law enforcement tactics, and I was taken aback by this part of the story last week about the Police Chief’s reaction to accusations by the police union:
“As a veteran of the Police Dept.,” Mr. Pedersen calmly told the newspaper after the latest attack, “if crime is increasing in the city, the police officers out there ought to be taking some responsibility for that.”
A faint smile almost was detected in his voice as he added, “I don’t think you can say the chief is responsible for crime in that particular sense.”
How should officers show increased responsibility?
“They should be more attentive to their duty, perhaps,” the chief said. “They should be more responsible for the actions of the criminal element here in the city.”
Soooo, the field officer is responsible for crime, but the department head is not?
The criminal element is in the city?
The robbery arrests show most suspects live outside Culver City.
What is the department head doing to make the officers “more responsible for the actions of the criminal element here in the city”?
What is the training or policy he has implemented to carry out this “vision”?
When he goes to briefings to address his concerns…never mind, he does not go to briefings.
This guy would not take responsibility for leaving the toilet seat up at a nunnery while walking out of the bathroom.
Good job by getting this guy to show his true colors every time you talk to him.
Also, the picking up of his mannerism helps the readers who are only now developing a picture of this person.
