Going into Tuesday’s City Council election, enough has been said about Scott Malsin pro and con.
How about this take on it?
Everyone who is against the hatred spewed by those poison pen writers, go out and vote for Mr. Malsin. Prove that Culver City is truly above hate voting.
Look at the record, not the personal attacks.
The city is run by humans, all of whom are fallible. I will bet that if the 700 forms of all past and current City Council members were put in the press in a fair and transparent manner, the poison pen writers would stay silent because this is a personal attack on Mr. Malsin, not the benefits issue.
Enough said. Go out and vote.
It is your right, your obligation and your duty…

How O’Leary Comes to the Aid of Students
From Roger Maxwell
Mehaul O'Leary gets my vote for the City Council on Tuesday.
Mr. O'Leary gave generous support to Culver City schools and students before he had ever run for political office. Years ago, I was mentor to a Sally Ride Science Festival and Toy Challenge * team when my daughters were at Culver City Middle School.
I ran a PSA/Public Service Announcement in several Culver City Newspapers. Mr. O'Leary responded and asked if he could help. He did so in a big financial way that allowed our team to purchase supplies, be creative with our time and not worry about fundraising, and, eventually, team
We /Oui made it the national finals in San Diego after successfully passing through various regional finals. Our whole team was able to travel to San Diego and experience a national contest held in San Diego's Ruben H. Fleet's Science Center where we won “Most Educational” in the Toy Challenge contest. I know the students will always remember the adventure of the Sally Ride Toy Challenge event.
Later that year I was C.C. Middle School's parent chairman of “Teacher Appreciation Week,” and Mehaul O'Leary contributed a massive cauldron of Irish Stew and sandwiches for the Friday grand finale. The teachers appreciated his involvement, as did the parents and students. The next year I again mentored another group for the Sally Ride Science Festival. Mr. O'Leary also helped. He, much like Albert Vera throughout the years, continued to help with CCMS's Teacher Appreciation Week by donating food and money.
I love Culver City. It is very comforting to me that some of the leaders at the political pinnacle of leadership positions think, and act, in a generous way toward the community as a whole. Mr. O'Leary exemplifies that leadership. If you are undecided about one of your four votes, I would strongly recommend Mr. O'Leary.
* Sally Ride, the first USA woman astronaut, sponsors a national yearly Sally Ride Science Festival / Toy Challenge that encourages middle school students to focus on math and science.
