About three dozen of us attended Sunday’s graveside service for Ken Ruben, and I was pleasantly surprised at how many turned out.
Many had very complimentary and appropriate words to say about Ken. His gravesite at Mt. Olive Cemetery, on Slauson Avenue in the City of Commerce, is on the right side of the cemetery where the markers are flat.
In the Jewish tradition, a marker is not usually placed on the grave until a year after the burial. Visitors might have a bit of a problem finding Ken’s grave at this time.
Some of us (rail advocates) are thinking of doing a collection to have a grave marker made for Ken.
We are not aware that anyone else is taking care of this.
A number of us rail enthusiasts get together on the fourth Monday of every month, at 5:30, at Knowlwood Restaurant, near the Fullerton Amtrak/ Metrolink Depot.
We will meet this coming Monday.
We’ll probably do a tribute to Ken at this meeting. Everyone will be welcome to talk about their experiences with Ken over the years.
We’ll probably also talk about getting fundraising started for his grave marker.
Ken attended these meetings religiously until his stroke. He attended right up until the January meeting.
Anyone who would like to come, please just show up.
There is plenty of room for everyone. Just look for a bunch of tables pulled together with a number of train enthusiasts sitting around.

Sorry I cant attend the upcoming Mon tribute to Ken in Fullerton. Hope someone can film or tape the talks. Please keep me informed about the collection for his grave marker, as I & another man would like to donate something.
