Re “Measure Y Tax Is So Small, and We Need It So Badly

Is the Measure Y tax really so small and needed so badly?

Culver City already has the dubious distinction of having some of the highest utility taxes, construction taxes, traffic fines and its very own “parcel tax.”

Giving more money to the government is like giving more vodka to an alcoholic: There never is enough. I remember when the sales tax was 6.5 percent. The city's budget was balanced. All services were excellent. All subsequent increases were equally “small,” “temporary” and “badly needed.”

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a temporary tax because governments become instantly addicted to them.

Does anybody really believe this burden will go away in 10 years?

How many millions does the City Attorney's office waste on “consultants,” “risk management” studies and the like?

How much of your hard-earned money is being flushed away on lavish, lifetime pension packages for mediocre bureaucrats like former City Manager Jerry Fulwood, whose corrupt reign lasted just a handful of years?

You can always tell when the government wants to reach even deeper into your pocket: words like “potholes,” “senior citizens” and “our children” are invariably inserted by the consultants who draft up the wording.

Don't be fooled.

Measure Y is just another crutch for a government that can't keep it's spending under control. You are not an ATM for bureaucrats. Vote No on Y.
