Please join us on Tuesday for the Food & Water Watch to Ban Fracking in California campaign kickoff with Academy Award-nominated “Gasland” filmmakerJosh Fox.

The event will start at 12 noon at the Kenneth Hahn Soccer Fields, 5401 S. Fairfax Ave., Los Angeles 90056

The press conference will be held in the middle of Los Angeles, overlooking the largest urban oil field in the country, where the oil company PXP has begun fracking and plans to frack many more wells.

Will you join us at this event to show PXP that we are united together in opposition to fracking in L.A. and across California?

We know that California is an oil and gas state, and it will take a massive movement to counter industry pressure and ban this destructive technology. We can't do it without you.

At 7 on Tuesday evening, join the environmentalist Bill McKibben, who recently led demonstrations at the White House that delayed the approval of a pipeline from the tar sands of Alberta to Texas.

Mr. McKibben will appear at the Hammer Forum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Westwood. (310.443.7000.)

The contentious Keystone XL pipeline has become a hot election year issue. Mr. McKibben is the author of several books, including The End of Nature, and his latest, Earth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet.

Also join, Mr. Fox of the documentary Gasland, which first revealed the controversial process of hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking.” In the name of energy independence, natural gas companies are using fracking with the promise to turn the U.S. into the Saudi Arabia of natural gas. Mr. Fox is the founder of International WOW Co., a film and theater company committed to socially conscious themes and subjects.

A book signing will follow the program.

Hammer Forum is moderated by Ian Masters, journalist, author, screenwriter, documentary filmmaker, and host of the radio programs Background Briefing, Sundays at 11 a.m., and the Daily Briefing, Monday through Thursday at 5 o’clock on KPFK 90.7 FM.

All Hammer public programs are free.
