Having just recently ended my term as Mayor, I thought I would be able to kick back and watch politics from a distance for awhile. The race for our L.A. County Board of Supervisors has drawn me back into the fray.

I am very pleased to endorse Bernard Parks to be our next County Supervisor. Having worked with him closely, I know him to be practical, straight thinking and straight talking.

Bernard Parks knows from first-hand knowledge the needs and problems of Culver City. He is approachable, he listens and he consistently works towards a useful solution.

As a Los Angeles Councilman in the Culver City- close 8th District, he knows our city intimately.

It is no secret that fiscal challenges are pressing in on all of us. Bernard Parks will be able to work closely with local governments and get the most out of an ever-shrinking budget.

It is no secret the patient care and hospital system that we count on is in deep trouble all over the county. Bernard Parks has real solutions to this problem. Solutions that can be implemented now and that are affordable now.

It is no secret that in order to be safe we need people in government who know how to keep us safe. His experience as Chief of Police for the City of Los Angeles is unquestionably an advantage. Bernard Parks initiated the “PIE” (Prevention—Intervention —Education) program at Crenshaw High School. This program is very successful at bringing students to a better understanding of one another.

It is no secret that our public transportation system is not adequate.

Having worked with Bernard Parks the last two years on the Expo Line JPA, I saw first-hand his commitment to public transportation on every level.

Bernard Parks has real solutions for real problems.

That is why I ask you to not keep it a secret and join with me and your Culver City neighbors and vote by absentee ballot or on Tuesday, June 3, for Bernard Parks for L.A. County Supervisor.

Alan Corlin completed 8 years on the City Council on April 28.
