Despite College Board Results, We Did Not Fail’

Dear Concerned Citizen:

We would like to thank all of those who supported our attempt to dethrone the “incumbent slate” of the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees.

Our attempt to improve the Board by electing some new life had a slim chance of succeeding at best. We had several weeks to create our campaign with no funds available.

In fact, the challenging candidates raised a total of $35,000 amongst all of them. In contrast, the members of the “incumbent slate” had years to prepare their campaign and had $500,000 accumulated amongst the four candidates.

They also had many powerful endorsements, particularly from the construction industry (do you wonder why?).

We don't feel we failed.

What we did was raise the level of awareness onto the Board. Voters will certainly remember the events that led to the disclosure of the irregularities of the expenditures of their construction activities.

They also will remember the arrogance and indifference the Board displays when faced with community grievances. In the future, we will do our due diligence more thoroughly.

We will prepare much sooner in the process and we will make sure our findings have a greater distribution to the voting public. We feel we must stop this waste of taxpayers' money and elect a board that really cares about the general welfare of all.

One event that took place yesterday was the firing of Larry Eisenberg (see attached L.A. Times article), the man in charge of the construction activities for the LACCD.

While this appears to be a positive, is it just the Board using someone as their scapegoat? The same Board still is in charge of the billions of dollars without much, if any, oversight nor enough concern about the quality of the building process to actually do something about it.

Here's to a better LACCD Board of Trustees in the future.
