[Editor’s Note: Mr. Abrams, running for the City Council in the April 8 election, was unable to attend last night’s candidates’ forum in Tellefson Park because of a work emergency.]

The campaign trail does allow the contenders to become familiar with each other.

Mr. Jim Clarke casually mentioned that we should all just say each other’s speech. I am disappointed, but not surprised, at such low turnouts of citizens at the various community forums.

True, we have similar and familiar opinions.

• Fracking, for instance. We all agree it is not a good thing.
• Affordable housing. We all agree is insufficient.

I support rent control, refurbishing the long neglected Natatorium, and a host of people-friendly causes.

I know that I am up against incredible odds. Vice Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells once pointed out to me, during my first strolls, that I just do not know how to campaign, but that doesn’t mean you won’t make a good public official.
