Re “Readers, and Zirgulis, Heeartily Defend Zirgulis’s Ingenuity

When the classified employees union notified me that I wasn’t one of their choices for endorsement for the School Board, I asked who they decided to go with.

Two no-surprises and Mr. “Z.” That is what call Robert Zirgulis.

I told Debbie Hamme (of the union) Mr. “Z” was a good choice.

Mr. “Z” has a wealth of information on education. But why should that surprise anyone? He is an educator.

I have spoken favorably of him in several of my articles. Greening of the schools, as noted by Mr. Alan Elmont, another candidate, who specializes in the school budget, is not new.

In December 2008, the City Council and School Board sat down, as reported in thefrontpageonline.com.

They promised to communicate more. It is a strange phenomenon, but it has taken on a Hatfield vs. McCoy life of its own. It has been established by PXP, the oil drilling company, and others that money can not be given directly to the School District.

The District has a long history of neglecting its property. This situation will not change unless there are real solutions to these problems, not the knee-jerk reactions.

Just in case you are not aware, I am the candidate who initiated interest in the Natatorium. I requested the tour, which had to be offered to all the other candidates.

Mr. “Z” and Mr. Elmont showed up.

I have done an article on the Natatorium in thefrontpageonline.com.

I have hinted in several of my articles about the possible ways of funding renovations and upkeep.

I also have visited the Robert Frost Auditorium, and my article about that visit is now being reviewed by Dr. Tony Spano at Culver City High School.

The schools are in need of routine maintenance, and no other candidates are addressing this.

If Mr. “Z’s” idea of selling the District’s property and leasing it back is a great idea, then it only follows that the District sell all of its property and lease it back.

In her letterIt is ill-equipped to maintain any of its assets. Budget cuts you know. Ms. Hamme states in her letter that the union is proud of its endorsed candidates because of their understanding of school community issues.

I hope this is not a case of standing by your man?

You mentioned a list of real problems that the kids and teachers are dealing with in the classroom. I do not hear any candidates talking about solving these school community issues.

It’s just cut, cut and more cuts.

When will all the madness end?
