Re “Stunner: Bond Campaign Crashes, Dies – Everybody Is Dazed”
Ending the bond measure campaign last night is yet another example of the School Board procrastinating and seeking endless surveys, studies and reports before they can come up with a decision.
It is blatantly obvious that we desperately need capital improvements. As a substitute teacher, I have been to all the campuses. I can personally testify to the deterioration of our school campuses.
I have been teaching in rooms where termites were swarming in the middle of a classroom. I have reported numerous broken exercise machines in the Middle School weight room. They have gone unrepaired for months. The bathrooms are foul smelling. They need renovation. The list goes on.
I had some apprehension about the consultants, however. If a bond were passed, it would be the responsibility of the School Board to see that the revenues from the bond were properly allocated.
Now we will have to wait another year before we can even think about getting a bond on the ballot and having our schools fixed.
The School Board should have authorized the bond and let the voters decide if they wanted to fix our schools. What a waste of time and energy on endless studies and surveys when the need is so apparent.
