Democratic Congressman Henry Waxman is misleading voters on Independent Bill Bloomfield, and voters in the new 33rd Congressional District need to know the truth.
Waxman is making false claims that Bill is a major Republican donor.
The facts are that Bill has contributed to both Democrats and Republicans.
However, the vast majority of his contributions have been for good government causes like redistricting reform and open primaries, which are non-partisan. Waxman also is misleading voters on Bill's stand against Big Tobacco.
The facts are that in 1987 Bill and his father took on tobacco companies and started an anti-smoking campaign with a powerful billboard on Santa Monica Blvd. in Westwood that warns of the dangers of smoking. Bill also helped pass an initiative in Washington State that was the toughest second hand smoke legislation in the country.
The truth behind these attacks by Henry Waxman is that he needs to hide from his flawed record. Henry Waxman has been on 34 different trips around the world that were bought and paid for by special interests. His travel itinerary included tropical vacation hotspots such as Bermuda, Lanai, Punta Mita/Mexico, and Jamaica, as well as European capitals such as Istanbul, Rome, Prague, London, Paris and Vienna.
These are trips of a lifetime for many, but routine for a career politician like Henry Waxman who has taken nearly $9 million in special interest PAC money including a quarter of a million dollars from big pharma.
The abuse of political junkets is part of the problem in Washington. We deserve a Congressman who will put us first.
We deserve someone like Bill Bloomfield to be our Congressman. His independent leadership is just what Congress needs to help end the partisan fighting and work to find solutions to America's problems.
