An Emergency Model for Other Neighborhoods

I just wanted to share what one Culver City neighborhood is doing.

Lindberg Park has been working to coordinate CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and Neighborhood Watch for disaster preparation.

The CERT coordinator and Neighborhood Watch captain (Tim Martinez and Ira Diamond, respectively) have been meeting and organizing.

The immediate goal is to raise $1,800 to purchase non-perishable supplies to serve the entire neighborhood.

Now this is a laudable goal, but the reality is that not every resident will or can donate cash. So the next step was to have a neighborhood garage sale which brings neighbors together, raises awareness about the topic, and raises money for the supplies. The sale is this Saturday, from 9 to 3, at Lindberg Park.

Of course our neighborhood would like to publicize the garage sale, but that is secondary to the bigger concept, which is developing and providing a model which can be adopted by other neighborhoods in Culver City.
