Re: Berryman Avenue Neighborhood Traffic Management Program

It has come to my attention that Mayor Alan Corlin has a business partner who lives on Berryman Avenue.

If this is true, I believe it is highly inappropriate for him to vote on the Berryman Program at the City Council meeting scheduled for Monday, April 21. It smacks of an appearance of a conflict of interest, according to a retired L. A. City Attorney friend of mine.

In the past I have seen other City Council members leave the Council Chambers when a vote came up where they may have a personal interest.

On March 19, Gabriel Garcia, from Public Works, chaired a neighborhood meeting. One of the many things discussed was the item concerning the closure of Berryman Avenue on the south and preventing traffic entering east bound on Herbert Street from McLaughlin Avenue between 3 and 7 p.m.

At this meeting, Mr. Garcia stated it was planned to have the current Council, including Mayor Corlin, vote on this matter rather than wait for the newly elected Council to be seated.

What’s the hurry?

It appears there are enough votes to push this through the current City Council — with the help of Mayor Corlin.

Thanks for your consideration on this matter.

[Editor’s Note: Mr. Corlin told the newspaper his business partner does not  reside in Culver City.]
