Re “Time to Send Time Thieves to Jail and for Unions to Become Aggressive

I would like to commend Eric Wattree for his essay yesterday about the Post Office and “time thieves.”

There also are numerous California criminal statutes that apply to time thieves who work in this state and in the city of Culver City.

Meg Whitman recently had a campaign commercial that stated “When Jerry Brown was Mayor of Oakland, his employees were paid for over 22,000 hours in a year that they did not work. Oakland is a big city with a lot of employees, but they have nothing on Culver City.

We exceed that number every year.

I am guessing that Oakland far exceeds that number, but Meg Whitman's staff could only document that number.

In Culver City over the years we have documented Police Dept. personnel that have been paid while taking off over 1,000 hours in a year (40-hour work week, 2,080 hours a year).

That is half of a fulltime employee’s work time. The city's management personnel are the biggest offenders.

That is why these time thieves are never arrested or fired. It goes all the way to the top in all city departments.

In Culver City government, who knows about this “everyone”?

Good work, Eric.
