A Salute to the Police for Nabbing a Predator

Thank you to the Culver City Police Dept. Crime Impact Team and Special Victims Unit for arresting a “career sexual predator” in Culver City last week. Thankfully, it seems we dodged a bullet.

When I was running for City Council last spring, I was criticized for meeting with Chief Don Pederson and asking him to inform the neighbors of the presence of registered sexual offenders.

In fact, I personally visited all the neighbors of the 33 registered sex offenders in Culver City to warn them about a sexual predator living next door. More than 75 percent of the neighbors, some with children, did not know a registered sexual predator was living next door. Almost everyone thanked me for warning them.

One idiot disagreed with my politics, and he did not take the issue seriously. He said he let the registered sexual offender babysit his kids.

Guess what has happened since then. One sexual predator has been arrested and nine others seem to be on the lam because they have been reported in violation of their probation, according to the most recent Megan's Law website.

I urge everyone to look up the latest on the Megan's Law website for Culver City and see the other nine guys who are in violation of their parole.

Some people will say that these sexual predators have rights. Well, this is a case where I am a NIMBY (not in my backyard) advocate.

I believe victims’ rights trump criminal rights. I encourage the removal of these sexual predator scum by any means necessary within the interpretation of the law.
