[Editor’s Note: A grateful Mr. Zeidman, a member of the School Board, dispatched the following letter to the City Council, Fire Chief Jeff Eastman, Police Chief Don Pedersen and City Manager Jerry Fulwood.]
Gentlemen:
For those of you who may not know, my 9-year old son Jason (the one you have all met) was involved in a pedestrian v. motor vehicle collision yesterday on Farragut Drive, just before 8 a.m.
The moving vehicle’s side mirror struck Jason in the temple, throwing him a few feet, causing extensive bleeding from his forehead, as well as moderate bleeding from his scalp, elbow and upper back.
Now, 30 hours and two Emergency Room visits later, Jason is doing as well as we would ever expect, especially in light of the broken left fibula and left tibia, concussion, stitches, abrasions and general soreness.
He’s already using the crutches to go to the restroom. So I am confident that my son, who now resembles Rocky Balboa after a brutal loss, will be just fine in time.
The purpose of this email is not to inform you of Jason’s plight, but rather to compliment our fine Fire Dept and Police Dept.
When my parents moved our family to Culver City back in 1971, they did so because Culver City was not Los Angeles.
Put differently, Culver City had its own school system, own police department and own fire department. Fortunately, we had never needed to contact the Police Dept. or Fire Dept. at any time over the past 37 years, until yesterday.
Within two minutes of the 9-1-1 call being placed, the police were on the scene. Officer Robert Brann was first on the scene. A number of other officers appeared just moments later, including the great female SRO.
Officer Brann took control of the situation, looked after Jason, and was both caring and compassionate. Less than two minutes later, the paramedics arrived and took over care of Jason.
The response time and action by both our Police Dept. and Fire Dept. was remarkable. They not only were instrumental in minimizing Jason’s injuries, but also in dealing with a not so calm father.
Thank you.
Scott Zeidman
