Re “O’Leary’s Bar Rival Pleads No Contest

I am glad that the final chapter has been written in the story of Robert Anthony Singerman.

Last month while the candidates for the School Board were discussing issues, the subject of Bullies and Bullying was on everyone’s mind.

I think that Mr. Singerman's actions should be a cautionary tale for parents and educators about the importance of anti-bullying education, and intervention.

I was troubled when it appeared that City Councilman Mehaul O'Leary was being set up by Singerman as the bad guy, more so to see that people would buy that type of perpetrator as victim balderdash.

With last Friday’s verdict, perhaps all Culver City residents might resolve to not put the matter behind us, but rather use this as a reminder that bullying behavior should never be condoned.

Too often we have glorified bad behavior that is tantamount to bullying in politics, reality tv and celebrity watching.

Most of us who are older know that all it takes to stop an argument or a fight is to walk away.

That takes courage.

The best way to fight a bully is to behave like a gentleman and let your friends and neighbors support you quietly while you go about your business.

Mr. O'Leary has shown that he is a true gentleman and should be accorded our quiet respect for how he and his family handled being victimized by a bully.

Let this be a lesson to all of us.
