I have not forgotten. I was waiting for the right time.

One of the perks of being a musician is that people are sometimes inspired to write pieces for me. My good friend Steve Fry is one example. He wrote me a piece a number of years ago called Two Images for flute and cello.

Usually, I premiere these works promptly. Not so with Steve’s. However, it has nothing to do with his Images. It is all poor timing on my side.

Soon after he presented me with this piece, the group I was in lost our flutist. Then, while trying to figure out a suitable replacement, I began my career as a composer where I only had eyes (and room on a program) for my own repertoire or pieces on my first solo album. Then, I got married. And so on…

Years later, though, I can finally see the time approaching. I have my new flutist in mind, I have a possible performance opportunity in mind, and the score is in my “current’ folder. Thank you, Steve, for your patience.

I haven’t forgotten (and still very much appreciate) your gift. I look forward to bringing it to public ears very soon! And for those of you who think the name Steve Fry sounds familiar, you aren’t hallucinating. For years he wrote a column called “Music to My Ears” for the Culver City News. Now he enjoys expressing his musical side with his jazz ensemble, Razmatazz. http://razzmatazzmusic.com/
