Dateline Dayton – My heartfelt sympathy goes out to those killed and injured at the theater shooting in Colorado. One of the young men killed, shielding his girlfriend, was from the Dayton area.
What makes an intelligent person want to carry out such a terrible tragedy? What would have happened if someone had entered his apartment? I hope justice is swift and correct.
A week ago yesterday we attended our granddaughter’s first tournament baseball game. During the regular season, we attended as many games as we could. Her team was not that impressive, although she always was able to score at least one run in each game. Now her team has come alive. They won their first tournament game. – and the next day they won again.
Possibly the regular season games were practice because they are making plays that used to elude them.
Their third game, on Friday, was an absolute blowout. They won 22 to 2, scoring 10 runs in one inning. What has come over the team? The coach is proud of their accomplishments, and justifiably so.
Saturday night we attended a Dayton Dragons baseball game and boy, could they use the hitting and fielding skills of our granddaughter’s team. They lost 9 to 1. The Dragons are in last place. Still they have a sellout for every game. It’s fun to go to a game. It would be nice to see them win, but it is an enjoyable evening.
Sign of the Times
After church and breakfast on Sunday, I installed my Silver Strike sign that I finally got back on Saturday from the framer in my building.
He had it for more than three years.

After that project was completed I did a little yardwork before heading to the home of s friends for an evening of cards and food. By the way, I won one of the games and received a blue ribbon for first place.
On Monday, Pauline took our two granddaughters (Julia and Madison) to a movie. In the evening, some members of Julia’s baseball team went to the batting cages close to our home It took Julia awhile to get used to them. Once she got the knack, she hit almost every ball.
The championship game was scheduled for the next day. Unfortunately, neither Pauline nor I could go. Pauline was attending a separate event, and I had a board meeting for the Learning Tree Farm. Pauline did manage to get to the field before the game was over, and Julia’s team, won. Julia even hit a home run. Maybe the batting cage practice helped.
Sure wish the board meeting had gone as well. With the sluggish economy, the Farm really is struggling. The economy makes fundraising difficult. As was pointed out, we have struggled before, and we have survived for 40 years.
