After much contemplation, I have exciting news to share. I am running for the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees.
• I am running for an open seat because jobs, education, and workforce development are important to me.
• I am running because I want to restore the promise California made to us, that our state would make college education affordable and accessible.
• I am running because I would not be here today if it weren't for a community college. Community college helped me fulfill my promise to myself and my family to get through school with the courses I needed to graduate, be successful and contribute to my communities.
• I am running because there is work to do.
For the past few months, I have been laying the foundation to run a strong campaign. In addition to meeting with stakeholders throughout the district and recruiting a campaign team, I have sought the support and endorsement of respected leaders throughout the County. I am endorsed by:
• U.S. Rep. Karen Bass
• State Sen. Holly Mitchell
• State Assemblymember Steve Bradford
• State Assemblymember Isadore Hall III
• State Assemblymember Reginald Jones-Sawyer, Jr.
• Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin
• Compton Mayor Aja Brown
• Compton College Board Trustee Sonia Lopez
• Culver City Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells
• Culver City Vice Mayor Mehaul O'Leary
• Culver City City Councilman Jim B. Clarke
• Culver City Councilman AndryWeissman
• Culver City School Board member Kathy Paspalis
• Lynwood School Board member Briseida Gonzales
• Hon. Diane E. Watson (ret.) and
• Hon. Gwen Moore (ret.).
I have prided myself on being self-sufficient. I generally figure out a way to get things done on my own before asking for help. But this is not that time. I cannot run or win alone. I can't do this without your help. I need you. You have been there for me before. I am hoping you will stay with me.
This is a huge district. The Los Angeles Community VCollege District is the largest in the nation, meaning lots of work and fundraising.
