Is the Fifth SWG a Charm?

I just opened the box. The $150 salt-water generator (SWG) from Intex has the same price tag as it always had, but there are new changes. How do I know? Because the last four generators I purchased are identical to each other, and I have had lots of repair-time to get used to their particulars.

A new, large switch unit is on the power cord, a push-button breaker system designed to shut off the system if danger of electrocution exists. My guess is that there was at least one lawsuit when someone was shocked while using the unit.

There is a newly designed electrode, w now partially covered by a plastic-looking material. My guess is that the designers decided that the unsightly white-powder oxidation, which gathered on the old uncovered electrodes, was not a sight to behold.

The outlet end of the tube now faces in a different direction – at right angles to the end of the input tube. My guess is that pool owners complained that the generator, which often is in tight spaces, needed an output tube end that would lend itself to the crowded pool equipment environment.

The on-off switch is finally labeled “On” and “Off.” Would you believe that for the past eight years I have had to guess which side of the on-off switch to push. I know – Why didn’t I label the darn switch myself? Who knows? The button to set the time for the operation of the unit now is labeled.

And finally, and I say Thank God, the formerly separate tube containing the water flow detector is no more. There is now only one tube for all mechanisms. Why is this so important? Because now there is no need for a union of the two tubes that required a SEAM, which sprang a leak!  just after the warranty expired. I should say four leaks because it happened to each of my four salt-water generators.

The new unit carries a two-year warranty. I shall hang my receipt for the unit in a safe place. I am curious as to how this newly designed unit will function. I will let you know. Hey – someone up there listened to my cries.
Thanks!
