Dateline Jerusalem — Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu made me proud to be an Israeli when he spoke to a joint session of Congress about the threat a nuclear Iran is to the very existence of Israel and the danger it is to the rest of the world.
The standing ovation he received made me proud to be an American. It gave me faith that the American people support Israel even when the current Administration does not. As shown by the response to Bibi’s speech, America and Israel have a special relationship beyond those currently in office.
It should have been obvious was not a political ploy to influence the upcoming Israeli elections, but to influence Congress to do what is necessary to prevent the President’s proposed pact with Iran before it is too late. It is especially timely because of the holiday of Purim celebrated this week by Jews throughout the world, commemorating when the Jewish people in Persia (what is now Iran) were also threatened with annihilation 2500 years ago. Were it not for two brave Jews, Mordechai and Esther, the diabolical plot of Haman to exterminate the Jews would have succeeded. Bravo Bibi for standing up to those who threatened you and insulted you and tried to manipulate you. Thank you for coming to the U.S. Hopefully those trying to influence Israeli politics and make deals with the devil for an elusive “peace” that is nothing but the opposite, will realize that a nuclear Iran is not just Israel’s problem, but threatens the entire world. I am not referring to only the American Administration’s actions, but to some candidates running for Prime Minister in Israel.
Look Who Is on Our Side
It speaks volumes that Israel has the support of some of our enemies, namely Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Egypt. They fear Iran having a nuclear program. A columnist for the Saudi daily Al-Jazirah said Bibi’s appearance before Congress was “providing a vital service not only to the Jewish state, but the entire Middle East.” An official from an unnamed Arab nation told the Wall Street Journal, “At this stage, we prefer a collapse of the diplomatic process to a bad deal.” What impressed me: Instead of just saying it was a bad deal, Bibi offered solutions, and alternatives to the deadly deal promoted by the Administration. Yet, after Bibi’s speech, Mr. Obama claimed there were no alternatives. Anyone who heard or read Bibi’s speech knows he presented well thought, rational alternatives. Perhaps our President’s absurd commentary on the speech was because he decided to boycott it. Perhaps if he had given Bibi the respect and attention he gives to America’s enemies, he would have heard the alternatives.
Most Dems Attended
For a speech allegedly being boycotted by most Democrats, it appears that was not the case. Some were missing Democrats. In the House of Representatives, 48 out of 188 Democrats did not attend. And in the Senate, 8 of 44 Democrats did not attend. Eighty percent did attend. Many boycotters were predictable. They usually vote against Israel or are pro-Palestinian. Those who attended and twisted what Bibi said were despicable. The vitriolic, malicious, rancorous attacks on Bibi after his speech were shameful, especially their tone and manner. They should be ashamed for treating the only true friend of the United States in the Middle East that way.
It is naive to think Iran can be trusted. Just this week, the U.N. watchdog agency IAEA said it could not confirm that Iran’s nuclear program and activities were for peaceful purposes.
Iran’s President Rouhani boasted on a couple of occasions that Iran lied and did not comply with their 2003 agreement with the IAEA which promised to suspend all uranium enrichment and other nuclear activities. Further, Iran continues to call for the annihilation of Israel. It baffles me that American Jews continue to blindly support a political party that caters to a regime that calls for another holocaust of Jews. Sometimes I think these Jews would vote for Hitler, y’mach shemo, if the Democratic party told them to do so.
