I have set the stage. For the last two months, I have cleaned every nook and cranny of my loft, gotten rid of items lurking uncared for in corners, and moved most of my furniture.
I am left with a large open space that I used to consider my dining area. This is to be the home of my baby grand piano.
In addition to being a cellist, I also play the piano. I began my musical studies on the instrument after begging my mom for three years (beginning at age 4) to get me lessons. I was advanced enough to learn Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude when in the sixth grade. I recorded all the piano music for my last album myself on my midi keyboard.
Having quit lessons when in high school, I may not be as accomplished on piano as cello. But my passion for the complex sonorities, the endless harmonic possibilities, and the soul of the instrument has never dwindled. In college, I studied under a piano. Just a few years ago, I wrote my first songs underneath a piano.
As of yet, I don’t actually have a piano… but I do have the space, the concert plans, budding collaborative partnerships, and students excited to see their cello teacher accompany them on piano.
It is time. And, in the true spirit of manifestation, I am stating my intention without yet seeing how my cello’s soon-to-be sister will come to be in my home. (If you are reading this and know of someone looking to sell or find another home for his or her baby grand piano… well, you know what to do!)
