Hello to Friends of the Falcons Youth and Family Services:

As you know, our program is committed to meeting the needs of the youth and families in South Los Angeles.

I am pleased to announce that the Falcons Youth and Family Service organization is now a Summer Food Service Provider for youths 18 and under.  The program was established to ensure low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.

We are feeding 600 kids a day with a goal of serving 1,000 young people at the following four sites:

1. New Pleasant Hill M.B.C.,
9537 S. Vermont Ave.,  Los Angeles  90044.
Breakfast, 9 to 10. Lunch, 12 to 1.

2. Jordan High School,
265 E. 103rd St.,
Los Angeles 90002.
Lunch, 12 to 1.

3. Santee Educational Complex,
1921 S. Maple Ave.,
Los Angeles 90011.
Lunch, 12 to 1.

4. Washington Prep High School,
10860 S. Denker Ave.,
Los Angeles 90047.
Lunch, 1:30 to 2:30.

What we are most proud of: As a provider we could have chosen to use a food vendor for our meals.

However, we discovered most of the vended food given to children is not eaten by the children but rather thrown in the trash. This has been documented over and over. So we elected to be self prep provider.

This means we would be responsible for cooking and preparing all the meals.

This requires far more work, and it is a tremendous challenge.

However, the outcome is great. The kids truly enjoy the meals, and we experience little waste.

From the photos above, you can see illustrations of the meals we are serving our children.

If you know of a site in Los Angeles that has children who are in need of breakfast, lunch or supper for the kids in their organization, feel free to refer them to our program.

Maybe we can help.
