Home Is Not a Uniform

Would you wear the same clothes, day in and day out, as everyone else?

If your friend, (who is three sizes bigger than you) looks good in a blouse, do you think you would look good in that same blouse?

How about running shoes?

Do they all fit the same? Of course not. That would be ridiculous.

Your home, the space you spend your time with family and friends, should not be a uniform.

It’s personal, a space that should — and can — cater to your lifestyle and tastes. It shouldn’t look like your grandmother’s house. Or your best friend’s house.

It should look like your house. More importantly, it should be a place where you feel comfortable, secure and, yes, happy.

I am not going to pretend that I solve the world’s problems.

Quite frankly, I don’t even understand the world’s problems. What I do solve is my client’s struggles with their living spaces.

For example, do you like to cook and entertain but have no space to seat people?

Do you like to cuddle up with your significant other, but your sofa is not deep enough to fit both of you?

Do your friends only stay for a little while because your home feels like a stuffy cave?

My Mission Is to Educate

Or how about the color of your bedding? Is it sad and uninviting?

Are you a free spirit stuck in a traditional red and green décor?

The list goes on for every little cranny and nook.

My goal for this bi-weekly essay is to educate and inspire its readers about the world of interior design.

I will cover design topics including interior architecture, paint versus wallpaper, dressing up your dining table or simple (or sometimes very complex) things like finding the perfect trim for the perfect accent pillow.

Stay tuned.
