Dear Ari and Diane:
This was written with someone else in mind, but as I have been struggling to find the right words to convey my thoughts and prayers for you both, I thought you might like it.
Clouds in My Eyes
By Janet Hoult
(From Body Parts, A Collection of Poems about Aging – 2010.)
Is that a cloud before my eyes or are they growing dimmer?
Like water covering my face when I was once a swimmer.
I know that I don’t see as well and I am not succeeding
In improving my poor eyesight, as I am busy readingWithout my glasses on my nose; they are such a bother!
The letters seem to change their shapes and blend into each other
I know that glasses help to fix my aging sight more clearlyBut if I see too well I think sometimes I pay most dearly
For when I see my loved one’s face all wrinkled and with pain
I like to take my glasses off and see him young again.
