Yesterday I played my last concert with Definiens. I have now left that home of nine years. A lingering aftertaste of sadness is mingled with bright anticipation of what is to come.

My father texted me today, asking if Dennis and I would accept an invitation from my brother to a Thanksgiving feast. I am happy to see my brother in his second month of working at his new job. This is truly a fresh start for him… for which I am thankful.

Also recently, another less fortunate family member informed us that she is almost certainly losing her home to the bank at the end of the year. Through this trying time, my husband and I are becoming a stronger and clearer team than ever before.

In this week of escalated emotion in the form of family time, I plan to stay present to all that I am grateful for in my life. To name a few more immediate highlights:

• I am sharing lunch (and a fun book of photos) with a good friend tomorrow.

• My man and I are taking time this week to celebrate US in Joshua Tree.

• I bought a plane ticket to see my mom and sister for Christmas.

• My 16-year old cat’s shiny coat and bright eyes are routinely mistaken for that of a young adult.

• I have the best studio of young and young-at-heart cellists who love the instrument and learning how much they didn’t know they know.

I will stop typing here and will leave a moment for your imagination to take over. …

I know I could go on and on… who needs a turkey or a holiday to give thanks?
