He downplayed the significance of his actions weeks before the filing deadline.
I have merely asked to look at papers to see what is involved in being a candidate for the School Board, Mr. Gourley told the newspaper this morning.
It is believed that he would be the first lawyer to serve on the School Board since Alvin Weisman, father of Planning Commissioner Andy Weisman, in the 1960s and early 70s.

Mr. Gourley pointed out he has until Aug. 10 to make his decision on running.
Second-time candidate Roger Maxwell and fifth-time contender Michael Eskridge also are in the race for seats being vacated by Stew Bubar and Board President Marla Wolkowitz.
