Chief of What?

The Mayor of Culver City, however, will perform today in his semi-fulltime role as Executive Vice President of Friends of the Library in Special Charge of Reliably Creative Ideas.

Friends of the Library may do the best job of any Culver City club in promoting its programs.

For the last several summers, Friends and the Julian Dixon Library on Overland Avenue have stimulated reading interest among junior citizens by spotlighting a single volume that is widely accessible.

The program is “Culver City Reads.”

Animal Instincts

To attract attention to this summer’s selection — the enduring tale of African wildlife from 1960, “Born Free,” about one woman’s surrogate parenting of an orphaned lion cub — the Friends of the Library once again are turning to costumes.

Roaming among the shoppers and vendors who make the Farmer’s Market a must every Tuesday afternoon of the year, Friends members will appear in animal costumes to talk up “Born Free.”

You Know Him

After more than seven years on the City Council, nearly everyone in Culver City who even vaguely tracks hometown politics knows Mr. Corlin.

For visitors who are stumped, the Mayor will be decked out in his favorite lion’s mane.

Since the Farmer’s Market is on Main Street, count on the Mayor — restored to his role as Culver City’s most eligible mature bachelor — to have at least two puns about mane/Main to share with anyone, especially those who do not ask.
