Dateline Dayton – Last Thursday, my sister Susan and her husband Willie came to our house for a trip to Columbus to attend our sister Sara’s installation as President of the Ohio Auxiliary of the Eagles. Sara has worked hard for years to see this day finally arrive. Along with my brother Mark and his wife Carol, we were pleased to share this special occasion with Sara and Dave.

We started our journey with breakfast, and our next stop was the casino in Columbus. The first thing we did was to get a players card.  You may remember that I collect players cards. This time the card paid a dividend: Each of us got $10 in free play.

Willie and Susan both won while I donated my normal $20, and Pauline dropped $10 in addition to the $10 we had received. After an hour at the casino, we proceeded to the hotel, headquarters for all activities.

We met up with Mark and Carol at the hotel, and the six of us had supper there. In the evening we attended the Eagles memorial service. Later, \ Sara rehearsed a skit she would present the next day, and it was hilarious.

Friday morning, we debated where to have breakfast. The hotel won a majority vote. We should have debated further. The food was less than good. Afterward, we enjoyed Sara’s skit, which was well received.

Mark’s daughter Aneca invited us to her law office in downtown Columbus. Since we had almost five hours, we accepted her offer. Aneca is a partner in a prestigious law firm with a corner location that offers an excellent view of the state Capitol building.

After checking out her office, it was lunch time. She took us to the Commons, where there was a lunch stand that served sandwiches and pizza. Most of us went for pizza or BLTs.  Aneca ordered a salad. Aneca is a healthy eater and a standout runner.

Back at her office, we were treated to a marvelous river view from another area of her building.

Early Friday evening was the installation ceremony, nice but a little long. A buffet meal was served afterward.

Saturday evening there was a reception for Sara at the Eagles in Troy, which we attended. Since they were serving a chicken dinner, we decided to eat supper there. Still, however, no one can   beat the chicken at KD’s here in the Dayton suburb of Kettering.

Tomorrow we will be heading to Michigan. In Niles, our grandson Ryan’s graduation party is on Saturday.
