VA Sits the Children Down and Spins a Fairly Fairy Tale

Mayor Garcetti has promised that every military veteran in Los Angeles – the world record 20,000 who go homeless every night – will be housed by the end of the year.

I presume His Honor intends to bind himself to the final car out of town on Dec. 30.

Not for the first time, the lightweight champion of City Hall made an ignorant, impossible-to-keep, Obama-style bogus promise.

Mr. Obama and Mr. Garcetti belong on the funny pages, not consorting with adults.

Last Wednesday, the VA wrote an adjunct to Alice in Wonderland. They essayed a settlement in a four-year-old lawsuit that rightfully accused them of parceling out their spacious land to nine different shrewd entrepreneurs instead of building housing to accommodate desperately homeless veterans.

It would be a farce in the private sector. Since, however, this is government obscenely misbehaving, the non-veteran population shrugs and plods on because this is normal government conduct.

The settlement sounds like something carved out of a nightclub comedian’s script:

And I quote:

“Under the agreement, the VA will appoint by October a national homelessness expert to develop a master plan for how best to use the 387-acre property.”

No one owns more idle time than government.

How much dead air time exists between today and the wiggly “deadline”?

Girls, you could meet a guy, fall in love, get pregnant, have a baby and start raising him before the first baby step is taken in this fake scenario. It is about buying time, baby, what government does best.

Nine months to hire an expert.

Nine months to a year for this genius, working for a fat salary, to draw up plans.

Nine months to a year for assorted agencies to approve his plans. (Remember, Speedy Gonzalez Obama is in his seventh year of tapping his patent leather toes to decide on the Keystone XL pipeline.)

Once approved – years from now – a variety of contractors will be hired.  Squabbles will ensue.

If my great-great-great-great-great grandson lives past 100, he will see formerly homeless veterans housed in the 23rd century.

No living person in America – even those to be born next year –will survive long enough to see the arrogant, whoringly guided Veterans Administration bring in all pathetic, roaming veterans from the Los Angeles streets.

As a housing entity, the VA is America’s unfunniest joke. Our colleague Robert L. Rosebrock has been writing here for years about the lying leaders of the VA. Greedily, they have parceled off land marked “For Veterans Housing Only” to shrewd entrepreneurs who have slyly converted the sleek grounds into yet another Westfield Mall.

As embodied today by shiftless President Obama, no agency on the planet moves more slowly, is more viciously predatory than government.
