At Least He Can’t Damage Too Many Minds

To be publicly certified as a humorless secular liberal, you must take an oath on the latest Ain’t No God, and Ain’t No Way Ever Was One, Y’Hear? tome by the most recent shrewd author to morph into an instant atheist.

Enter Pete (I Swear to God) Dreier.

Thankfully, Prof. Pete teaches at a small college, thereby limiting the damage he can inflict on the tender minds of young people in Los Angeles.

His C.V. attests to Prof. Pete’s doctorate.

But the fellow must be awash in self-effacing humility, too bashful to reveal the depths of his scholarliness. There wasn’t a hint of book-learning, maturation or comprehension of modern society in his astounding defense of the indicted thugs of Acorn in this morning’s Los Angeles Times.

Is he as ignorant as he pretended to be in his essay? Or did he deliberately stomp all over the truth in an anger fit?

Prof. Pete’s puerile argument rested on two pillars:

Black plus poor equals sainthood. Acorn is comprised mainly of angels on earth.

Those dirty bums on the right just exposed Acorn’s sins as a distraction. They are really out to ruin President Obama.

Like most liberals I know, he is devoid of a sense of humor. He explains: “The Right is out to get us. There is no time to waste on laughing.”

Whatta guy, Pete.

Prof. Pete would have been accorded more credibility if he had argued the innocence of John Wilkes Booth or that Wilt Chamberlain was a midget.

Since liberals talk only to each other, and refuse to validate non-liberal opinions, he may not realize how silly, how graceless, how uninformed he looked this morning.

Do children in his neighborhood pull him up and down the sidewalks in a little red wagon?

Missing Vision, Honesty, Fairness

If he were an independent liberal instead of a standard-issue one, I would love to engage him. How can you take seriously a professor of politics at Occidental College who has replaced his morning prayers with a secular blessing:

“Dear God (just in case you exist): I hate Glenn Beck. I hate Bill O’Reilly, I hate, Sarah. I hate Dick Cheney.”

Mind you, this is a professor who dresses himself every morning. I will guess he is Keith Olberman’s other viewer.

If Prof. Pete wants to defend Swish’s nutty healthcare bill, we can pleasantly disagree. No doubt he is among the dwindling number of fools (especially in academia) who believe in global warming. Or is it global cooling this week? We could debate that. Or whether President Dithering should send 40,000 more f our boys to Afghanistan.

But no.

He chose to throw his intellectual weight in front of the foul persons who have poisoned Acorn beyong redemption. He swayed and argued as if he were Prof. Pathetic, without a moral leg to stand on.

Prof. Pete was so baldly dishonest in laying down his defense of Acorn — sure they have erred, but they are so poor and so black, how can you be against them? So they registered a few Martians, a few dead people and a few other non-existent voters in last year’s Presidential campaign to get Swish into the White House and Al Franken into the Senate. So? Look how much good Acorn has done over the years, providing housing for their fellow poor people.

I can only guess Prof. Pete was trying out some of his lines for a Saturday Night Live skit that I hope he is preparing.

You could hang a tape recorder around a dead cow’s neck and play back the nonsensical argument superior to that crafted so sadly by the much-educated but under-learned professor made.

In vast Los Angeles, can’t the Times unearth one reliably serious liberal? They can’t all be at Hillside.

I don’t know whether Prof. Pete is secular — but I would bet the birthright of my first two sons on it.

What I do know is that he earned his bona fides as a left-winger because he possesses the three indispensable cerebral requirements of every left-winger:

He is irretrievably unserious as a debator. He mocks every person right of center. And he is seething with white-hot (sorry, Swish) anger unbecoming a 5-year-old.

How can such an uncomfortably packaged person live with himself?

Embracing daily life as a professional victim, a favorite retreat for the Left, is to liberals what a bris is to my fellow Jews — a rite of passage into the authentic world. Liberals were the inspiration for the black community mantra, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.”

Prof. Pete became this morning’s king of waste with his tortured defense and glorification of the outrageously illegal shenanigans of Acorn managers and employees in more than a dozen states — so far.

Prof. Pete’s arguments about the disgusting, dishonest low-lifes of Acorn were so silly that if he were job-trolling with this essay, he couldn’t have landed an interview with an illegal high school desperate for instructors.

Just like his idol, Swish Obama, I shall wager that within 5 minutes of snapping his fingers, Prof. Pete could surround himself with 25 astute academicians who would swear to his unswerving erudition.

But such a collecvtive endorsement is meritless if you are philosophically blind and a fundamentally dishonest commentator of the political scene?

Much as he loves his wife and children, that appears to be how strongly Prof. Pete believes in the moral virginity of poor people.

As a judge of one’s credibility, that flailing fallacy has triggered Prof. Pete’s dismantling.
