What are you thinking, Culver City?
Or like scarecrows, not thinking at all?
Endangering homes you deemed “Landmark”
For another development, not the least bit small
A huge building right next door to our “culturally significant” homes
Will cause all sorts of problems galore.
Culver City, what goes on in your domes?
Why can’t you be like the tinman and realize you must have a heart?
For all the citizens, your constituents who from this city won’t depart.
Perhaps there is even toxic waste from the industry that used to be there.
As the digging begins will the sickness as well
Will the kids in the schoolyard start losing their hair?
Why can’t you be like the lion overcoming his cowardly ways?
To face the facts and stand up to them, not leave the truth in a haze.
The Champion and the Entrada plans were bad enough in their scope
But one has been tabled and the other should be;
Which has given our citizens hope.
What is happening Culver City?
Have we got such a budget crunch
That we’re selling property to developers who are out to eat our lunch?
Why not look behind the curtain?
Follow Dorothy and Toto’s lead
Look over our city’s accounts and budget to see if we really, truly need
To pay sky-high administrative salaries, dwarfing those of the service workers
Perhaps we need to look again, to make certain that they are not shirkers
Because our police and firemen, who put their lives on the line
Deserve our thanks with salaries to match what they do for us all the time
To many, we are the Emerald City, where good witches and wizards should abide
What happened to our sense of history?
What replaced our sense of pride?
Sometimes it appears, Culver City, that the wicked witch is taking over the town
Look into your hearts, have courage and think
Culver City, please don’t let us down!
