Starting a Park

Among some of the topics were the challenges of building a dog park, including site design elements, canine behavior in and out of the dog park and healthy dogs.

They spoke about working with local officials, businesses, and the community to reach the goal of opening an off leash dog park.

Praise for City Council

“What Vicki and I realized, and expressed at the conference, was how fortunate we were to be involved with such a dedicated and active board,” Dr. Gebroe said.

“Also, we have a wonderful community that not only expressed their desire to have a dog park in the area but that actively participated in bringing the Boneyard to fruition.

“Our City Council listened to all of us. They allowed us to raise funds in the form of private donations and grants to subsidize the Boneyard that the community is enjoying today.”

The Conference, attended by nearly 70 people from around the country, was organized by MARDOG, a New Jersey dog park advocacy group, and partially sponsored by Petsmart and Best Friends

Gaining New Ideas

“We were honored to have addressed this very active group of dedicated volunteers”, said Ms. Daly Redholtz, “Many important issues were discussed, and it was a wonderful opportunity to get new ideas for our own dog park”.

The Friends of the Culver City Dog Park group is excited about future plans to enhance the Dog Park, located in Culver City Park, on Duquesne, south of Jefferson Boulevard.

The group offers opportunities for volunteers and philanthropists to help with the work of improving and sustaining the park for future generations.
