In an exclusive finding yesterday, The New York Times reported in a news story, not a commentary, that Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the controversial illegal immigrant bill on Friday for one uncomplicated reason: She is an idiot.
Who says so? The Times’s reporter, Dandy Randy Archibold, who baldly committed a shocking breach of ethics for the company that has branded itself “The Newspaper of Record,” nationally, for the past century. Socially, this is the equivalent of entering a dinner party and spitting in your hostess’s right eye as you hand her your wraps.
This is as serious as sin gets in the uppermost echelon of contemporary journalism. Even though this kind of garbage, small-town journalism is practiced regularly by liberal newspapers, it will not even attract a shrug from nominally alert media watchdogs because, you see, Gov. Brewer is a Republican.
When liberals object to a Republican action, they are more predictable than your spouse or the calendar. Eschewing civility almost every time, they name-call or stoop to a sympathy ploy instead of reasoning through a problem. This morning in the Los Angeles Times, columnist Greg Hernandez, a U.C. Irvine professor, naturally, did both. Mr. Rodriguez seldom has demonstrated an appetite for critical thinking, a pity and a disservice to readers.
A Thinker Who Stumbles
This was my favorite takeaway from his essay:
“We can safely assume that most illegal immigrants are of humble origins, right? So should the police ‘reasonably suspect’ people with darker faces?”
Aside from being an embarrassing non-sequitor, Mr. Rodriguez resorts to familiar rhetorical refuges for liberals. I shall interpret his two points:
• Since my fellow Latinos are uniformly sweet and poor, why would you prosecute them just for breaking the law when they only want a decent life?
• This law calls for racial profiling, which is wrong because it ensnares too many of my people.
“Sweet and poor” is a defenseless, puerile excuse for the infestation of illegal immigrants that liberal commentators frequently fall back on. Contentment with “sweet and poor,” friends, is why Mexico and numerous Latin lands are backwards, undesirable places to live, even for the sweet and poor. Meanwhile, our prisons are groaning from an overload of sweet and poor Hispanic illegals. What a surprise.
As for The New York Times’s remarkable abrogation of responsibility, Mr. Archibold’s attack, in a news story, was another stark reminder of why liberal newspapers are shrinking and failing at alarming rates.
The sizzling angry Mr. Archibold insulted Gov. Brewer — who succeeded Janet Napolitano 15 months ago — as if she were the pursued instead of the pursuer. His savage, unethical critiques of the law and the governor came straight from his venomous pen. Attribution was absent, a journalistic gimmick on liberal newspapers that allows partisan reporters to inject their views into print .
Said Mr. Archibold of the governor: She is a ditzy-minded petty politician in petticoats who has little awareness of the swirl of activity around her. Soon it sounds like a Ronald Reagan critique revisited 30 years later. Remember how ignorant and inattentive he was said to be?
Same Old Failed Arguments
Liberals never change. Mr. Archibold wrote that the governor whom he despises is a “deeply tanned, affable, cheerleader-type” who “fumbles and grimaces” through news conferences, a meticulous bean-counter who places strong stress on getting even with rivals. And then came the crowning rap — she is so ignorant and pliable that she is controlled by dastardly conservative consultants.
In a 37-paragraph straight-line attack on Gov. Brewer, the kindest detour Mr. Archibold made was when he quoted Arizona state Sen. Ken Cheuvront, a Democrat, saying the governor isn’t as bad as he thought she would be.
Sen. Cheuvront said: Having known Gov. Brewer for 16 years as an ardent conservative, “I am surprised she has become much more pragmatic (as governor).”
According to the starchly politically correct left-wing written and spoken media, about 97 percent of what you can read or hear in this country, Gov. Brewer yanked the trigger on the quintessential modern social crime:
She formalized a bill that is liable to lead to racial profiling. Horrors, according to left wingers. Just because one type of person commits most crime, say liberals, you should go after everybody so the bad guys won’t feel bad. That is how liberals think.
Here is a news bulletin just in:
Scottish Presbyterians aren’t breaking into our country.
You pursue the people who overwhelmingly commit the crimes, not little children and their grandparents.
Swish Obama, who ran for President so he and Mad Michelle could see a new section of the world, for free, every day, on Saturday suggested the federal government was, cough, cough, going to, by thunder, look into the Arizona law and see if illegal immigrants’ Constitutional rights were being violated. To heck with states’ rights. They are for Tea Party extremists.
Swish made the statement at an airport in North Carolina, from where he was flying off to West Virginia and who knows where else before finally escaping America altogether again later in the week.
Dems Are Protecting Their Guys
Arizona, Texas and especially California have become over-run in the last 20 years by hordes of illegal immigrants, many of them once and future criminals. Arizona has taken a radical step to attack the suffocating problem. The new law will empower law officers to check the immigration status of suspicious looking characters, jail and deport them.
Admittedly, that is a wide berth that, reasonably, could invite abuse of rights. But, as Swishy likes to say, reform is needed now.
Desperate times, your mother warned you, call for desperate measures. Surely liberals would agree that we have been infested by illegals, who have caused both immeasurable good and immeasurable damage.
If you left liberals in a room by themselves to make laws, America would be even more chaotic than Swishy has made it in the last 15 months.
Liberals sincerely believe that most illegals are hardworking would-be altar boys and nuns. They obviously are not.
Because Hispanics, dead or alive, are overwhelmingly Democrats, our liberal friends prefer to wink at the unquantifiable economic damage that illegals have wrought that has contributed markedly to the present fiscal train wreck.
Although liberals unanimously reject the concept, for the sensible section of America, racial profiling can have merit.
If there were racial profiling at American airports, pre-school children and limping grandmothers cowering behind walkers would not be looked upon by crack security guards as suspicious characters.
A black mother of my acquaintance complains, understandably, when her straight-walking adult son periodically is stopped by Culver City cops. The only evident reasons, she says, are that he is black and he is driving a handsome automobile. My sons never are stopped when tooling through Culver City. The last time I looked, I was told 75 percent of Culver City crime was committed by black and Hispanic males.
Ipso-facto…
That is why freckle-faced Lutherans are not closely monitored.
