Re “Relaxing into the Process

It truly takes courage to update an operating system. No wonder I waited so long.

After finally finishing all the updates on my Macbook Pro and getting the recording equipment at least mostly happy, I decided it was time to bring my iMac to the same level… in part because my recording hardware now has new drivers that won’t interact with the “old” computer.

The first upgrade went smoothly. I was able to use all my software programs without a hitch. Tonight I took the next step. My reward was a gray screen with a panic message.

I panicked all right. As my main computer, I had visions of my iMac needing to be swept clean and never again being the same.

I called my husband immediately. He calmed me down and suggested I research the issue online. Sure enough, when I typed in my keywords, I found I am not the first person to experience this disheartening message.

My computer didn’t respond to the first or the second support tip. Only after unplugging everything would it restart and continue the install. Thankfully, an hour after I started this process, I am able to get back into my main computer. Now I get to see what works and what doesn’t.

I backed up my computer in preparation for this upgrade, so I would not have lost any important files. Even so, I am incredibly relieved to know that I can continue working without interruption… I hope.
