Conflicting Opinions: Keep the Children or Send Them Home?

Dateline Dayton — The controversy over the thousands of immigrant children from Central America has made its way to Dayton.  Mayor Nan Whaley has said she would welcome some of the children here.  U.S. Rep Mike Turner of Dayton  claims the area does not want the children. He said the mayor’s position is out of line. Congressman Turner even has written President Obama about his view.

Mayor Whaley fired back. “If Congressman Turner would write legislation instead of letters, we wouldn't have this problem,” she said.

Mayor Whaley is correct. We have a do- nothing Washington administration from the top down. A thorough housecleaning is long overdue.

Personally, I have mixed emotions.  On one hand the children are here illegally, but on the other, they are just children.  We have the homeless problem. A sizable portion of our own children don't have enough to eat.  Shouldn't we be taking care of them  before taking on the problems of others?

Taking the Christian approach, every city in the United States should accept some of these children.  Dayton even has identified where the children could be housed.

The other notion that crossed my mind:

If Central America keeps shipping out all their children, who will be the future leaders?
