[Editor’s Note: The writer is President of the Teachers Union, and this is an update to union members.]
Friends:
Your Culver City Federation of Teachers bargaining team met again with the Management team on Monday.
I'm happy to report that good progress was made. We are hopeful that an agreement can be reached this week and CCUSD can start rescinding many of those layoff notices.
As you know, we're willing to take 6 unpaid furlough days next year, saving CCUSD about $720,000. Talks continued on the “snap back” ” language that would “buy back” some of those furlough days if new revenues come into CCUSD next year.
We also continued our efforts to find creative ways to provide our elementary teachers additional preparation time.
We bargained a number of “meeting-free” Wednesdays this year, and we are working to do something similar next year.
We have also asked that CCUSD complete an early retirement incentive analysis again next year to determine whether a financial incentive for retiring veteran teachers might result in a savings for CCUSD.
Our next union meeting is today at 3:30 in my room at CCHS, No. 129.
Just drive in the Huron Street gate, turn right, and follow along to the last bungalow next to the tennis courts.
The tentative agenda is:
1. Bargaining update,
2. Ratification procedures,
3. Principal evaluations,
4. Endorsement process for School Board candidates,
5. Election of officers process,
6. Site concerns,
7. September activities,
8. New business.
Don't hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns.
