Dateline Dayton – We learned late last week that my Aunt Dorothy died, and visitation would be on Friday evening with the funeral on Saturday. Aunt Dorothy was the last of my mother’s sisters and brothers. My only surviving relative from that generation is Aunt Alma, my aunt by marriage.
On Friday evening, my sisters, brother and spouses met at the funeral home in Sidney. After visiting with Dorothy’s children, we headed north for delicious fried chicken. Unfortunately, Sara and her husband Dave had other plans for the weekend and were not able to join us at the Inn Between.
Saturday was the funeral, so it was back to Sidney for the Mass, followed by a meal. From there it was on to Piqua for the burial on the Lange family plot, alongside her husband Jerome. Although the weather was windy, it was a beautifully sunny, just what she deserved.
Sick Bay
Pauline’s brother Joe still is in the rehab unit at nearby Walnut Creek. He would like to walk with a cane before moving to assisted living. The staff is working towards that goal. It could be a week before he actually makes the move. This will work well for us since both my son Chris and I will be out of town this weekend.
Chris, Pauline and I did go over and check out the room when we visited Joe last Sunday. Since they had moved the furniture that we felt wasn’t necessary in the room and brought in additional items, we wanted an idea of how the room could be laid out. We will need to purchase a computer desk for him, and we saw a nice one at a second-hand store. We will see if it still is there once the price is reduced. After so many days, this store lowers prices. However, if you really want the piece, you can’t wait for the clearance.
And Away We Go
Yesterday I left for Las Vegas. This is my annual excursion with my brother-in law, with the exception of last May, when our wives went along and we visited the Grand Canon. Willie and I always go the last weekend of January for the Four Queens Silver Strike Tournament.
Leaving on a Wednesday is out of the norm. Usually, it is Thursday, and we’re driving from Las Vegas to Reno. I really want to go to Virginia City. They have a casino there with a Silver Strike Machine. Being so close, we figured we might as well check out Reno and possibly, if time permits, Lake Tahoe. We must be back at the Four Queens by early Friday evening. Can’t miss the meal!
Next week, the Nevada Adventure.
