Dateline Dayton – The smoke from a fire on Lake Erie must have caused brain damage that just now is surfacing in Cleveland.
A short time ago, three young women who had been years’ long captives escaped from a private home in the middle of the community. Their torturer is making his way through the court system, his fate still to be determined.
The other day in another bizarre scene, a Cleveland man was arrested after decaying bodies of three women were found around the abandoned house he was occupying. A registered sex offender, he roamed the streets unsupervised.
I hope these weird Cleveland events will be a wake up call for all of Ohio and the country. Sex offenders as well as those who abuse children need closer supervision.
It is sad that every week of the year you hear about a child being injured or killed by a person who should be providing loving care. This very week one child was killed and another injured in small communities north west of Piqua. With names like St. Anthony and St. Henry, you would think there would be loving people around to care for the children.
Can you believe Rolling Stone magazine put the picture of the accused Boston Bomber on the cover last week? What is becoming of the media in our country? This slaps the faces of those who were killed or injured that dreadful April afternoon. Where does freedom of the press stop and irresponsible journalism begin?
Thank goodness we have the likes of traditional newspapers that provide us with news, information and commentary without decorating their reports with sensationalism.
It is comforting to know some retail outlets refused to have Rolling Stone on their racks. The magazine will sell out, though, because we have warped persons.

I had great plans to get many things accomplished around the house last Saturday, but I found it difficult to keep at it. During my initial rest period, prior to starting any projects, I came across the movie Pretty Woman on television. I have seen it a few times, but since I enjoyed it, why not? While trying to get something accomplished in the backyard, I took many breaks. To make it more problematic, Pretty Woman was followed by Burlesque, which I only had seen once.
I was able, though, to accomplish everything I had scheduled, even with the necessary multiple rest periods.
After the first two films, Blind Side, which I never had seen, was next. That killed three more hours. You were able to view ten minutes of the movie, followed by five minutes of commercials, which did allow me to get a few things done during the breaks.
Indoors and out, the weather here in Ohio is absolutely beautiful. I hope yours is, too.
