Re “I Don’t Have to be Politically Correct”
Just finished reading Gary Abrams’ latest essay where he tries to make the best of his last place finish in last month’s School Board election.
He declared himself “the sixth Board member.”
I enjoyed his use of fuzzy math in his analysis. But, if I remember right, wasn't he given a Volunteer of the Year award by one of our elementary schools?
Boy, I hope it didn't involve tutoring students in mathematics.
Knight-errant and Squire
Due to Mr. Abrams’ self-deceiving, gullible analysis of his campaign, I would like to suggest to Robert Zirgulis that before he embarks on his newest trek of running a certain-doomed (and more expensive) candidacy for City Council, that he not look any further for a companion to his Knight-errant.
I have found your “Sancho Panza.”
That, of course, would be none other than Gary Abrams.
Although I am not sure he would make an able, loyal squire, he does seem to have the clear and simple part down pat.
A Slow and Splintered Death
To show just how shortsighted Gary can be, does he truly believe that by just having the Superintendent force Maya Cohn back onto the varsity soccer team, and to make a varsity coach accept her, or any player, onto their team, that that would guarantee her playing time?
Micro-Managing
If that were to occur, the only thing that would happen is Ms. Cohn would watch the slow and splintered death of her varsity career while sitting on the bench.
In this case, would Gary simply instruct the Superintendent to go one step further and dictate her amount of playing time also?
This is called micro-managing.”
Anyway, this is not AYSO soccer where everybody plays.
Still a Breath of Fresh Air?
Mr. Abrams finished dead last in the Nov. 3 election with just under 500 votes.
He was more than 120 votes behind Roger Maxwell who had withdrawn from the race early on and didn't even mount a campaign.
There was even an unofficial campaign telling voters not to vote for Roger Maxwell, and he still beat Mr. Abrams.
In the Board election of 2001, Lawerence J. Heinzman, an 18 year-old, then a recent-graduate from Culver City High School, received more community support (626 votes) than Mr. Abrams received (499) in this last election.
This really makes one wonder just how many voters selected Gary's name by chance just because it happened to be listed on the ballot.
Aren't you really s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g your self-proclaimed “continued importance” in our community, just a little bit, Gary?
Just like other politicians do.
No Better Than Sen. Joe Biden
Awhile back, during his untraditional, non-campaign campaign for the Board, he emailed me asking if he could convert one of my past commentaries in this newspaper as being one of his own.
He said he wanted to alter the subject matter from the city's Measure W to the School Board's Measure EE in order to make it more relevant to last November's election. Even though I felt a little flattered by his asking, I told him no.
With his asking, I actually began to think that maybe I had misjudged his character.
At least he asked, which is more than could be said about our Vice President, Joe Biden, when he was a Senator.
But wouldn't you know it, Gary went on and misused my earlier commentary anyway.
Later, I found it on his blog: HYPERLINK “http://garyabrams.wordpress.com/2009/09/29/ca/” without any written credit given in the piece.
Over-Exposure
So, as long as Editor Noonan sees Gary's simple, rap-like writings as being useful to his publication, he will continue to extend Gary's “15 minutes of fame.”
I guess I will stop reading his overt attempts at staying current in the public's eye, and overlook his seemingly limitless attempts at profundity.
