Re “Aging Gov. Brown Struts Around Campus in Spiffy (State Funding) Shorts”
In using our state Dept. of Finance’s data for the 46 unified school districts in Los Angeles County, it shows that by implementing Gov. Brown’s Local Control Fund Formula, Los Angeles County will lose over $11 billion dollars in state education funding.
The governor’s new proposed funding formula will withhold more funding from a greater number school districts than will be shifted to the fewer districts receiving the shifted aid. Culver City USD alone, under the implementation period, will be shorted $17.5M.
Opportunity in Chaos
School boards and district administrators are in no position to demand anything from the state Legislature. After 10 long years of difficult local cuts, years of state deferrals and now flat funding, any kind of increase in state education funding, no matter how minuscule, is being hailed as a godsend. Meekly and happily, it will be accepted with whatever funding increase the governor and Legislature decide to bestow upon them.
The Envelope, Please
By default, the biggest winner in the Local Control Funding Formula shifting of education funds is not our students. It is Gov. Brown and the Legislature. They are balancing the state’s budget on the backs of our kids.
Outta the Way, Kid
I wonder where these billions of dollars in statewide savings will end up being spent. Is that the futuristic train being pushed down California's political track?
