All I know about it is what I just read on the internet. It just came out. I just bought it. It should arrive in two days – thanks to Amazon Prime.
And thanks to Amazon Prime for developing what promises to be one neat device for streaming Instant Amazon Video shows in HD. Plus, there appear to be a number of other neat features. Pardon the overuse) of “neat,” but I am excited. When that happens, sometimes I revert to childhood ways.
Just what does Amazon Fire do that my current Apple TV box cannot?
1) I will be able to watch Amazon Prime shows in 1080p HD, and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound on my big-screen TV.
2) With voice search capability, I will be able to speak the name of a show, an actor, instead of typing letters in a box.
3) If I ever want to play computer games, I will be able to do that, too.
4) I will be able to use my remote without having to point it at a box.
5) If I just want music, I will be able to use Pandora to locate and play my selections.
Thanks to Amazon Prime and Amazon Fire, I can enjoy my shows while realizing that my annual fee, about the same as for Netflix and Hulu Plus, is giving me free two-day shipping on items ranging from five dollars to very expensive.
Apple TV has newer movies for rent. But I will be able to switch between the Amazon Fire box and the Apple TV box when ever I desire.
What am I going to watch first when the box arrives? After experimenting with all the bells and whistles, I plan to watch a high definition episode of The Americans on my big screen TV. Heretofore, I could only watch it in HD on my iPhone and Mac computer.
How spoiled I am letting myself become in my later years. Is that bad? Or is this my time to spoil myself a bit? Only God knows, I suppose.
