Also For Shame: Mayor Villaraigosa Refuses to Join Bus Driver's Mourners

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and his fellow MTA Board members persist in refusing to join mourners in laying a funeral wreath at the 7-Eleven convenience store memorial site where esteemed longtime MTA bus operator Olivia Gamboa, 47, was killed at 5 a.m. yesterday when a tow truck driver allegedly ran a red light. The 7-Eleven store’s counterman was also injured in the deadly crash at the corner of Fifth Street and Broadway.

Ms. Gamboa nearly was decapitated by the speeding tow truck operator.

The horrific pre-dawn street collision caused ultimately by the City of L.A.' s continuing refusal to crack down on  the illegal downtown tow truck operators.

All relevant details concerning the accused tow truck driver and the actual towing company he is tied to are being withheld from the news media by MTA for reasons that the County Transit behemoth steadfastly refuses to divulge.

MTA's immediate concern is to limit the transportation agency's financial liability when this thoroughly discredited Board of callous politicians inevitably is sued for wrongful death by the late Ms. Gamboa's family, which includes her husband and daughter who are both currently MTA bus operator/drivers, too.

The trio of huge, strikingly-beautiful memorial wreaths found at the moment in front of the 7-Eleven store, scene of the “accident,” were not placed there by MTA, as some MTA  mouthpieces are trying to get you to believe.

This inspiring memorial to MTA bus operator victim Ms. Gamboa is solely the inspiration of the extremely well-liked owner of this excellent  community-minded Downtown 7-Eleven store.

The next MTA board meeting will be on the committee-level , starting next Wednesday,  at which time United Riders of Los Angeles fully intends to grill, face-to-face, the very closed-mouthed MTA Board members during the  official public comment portion regarding  crucial  information withheld concerning the tow truck driver's background and who the accused speeding tow truck operator in reality is employed by.

It is with much sadness that Metro announces the passing this morning of long-time bus operator Olivia Gamboa, 47, who was killed when her bus was struck by a tow truck in downtown Los Angeles.

Olivia had worked for Metro for 13 years. Her husband and her daughter are also Metro bus operators.

The Gamboas live in Montebello. Co-workers recalled Olivia as quiet, family-oriented and very well liked by both passengers and colleagues.
The bus that Olivia was driving was struck by a flatbed tow truck at the intersection of 5th and Broadway shortly after 5 a.m., shortly after the bus went into service on Line 18. There were no passengers on board the bus at the time. The accident is under investigation.
