A New Hot Breakfast

How many boxes of cold cereal did I eat over the years? Lots.

Hot cereal? Just a few.

So this morning I turned the corner and conjured up the following:

A bowl of Quaker hot cereal – set aside.

Section an apple – throw it into a Ziploc freezer bag (microwave safe).

Add cinnamon and a shot of water to the bag.

Microwave the bag and its contents for two minutes.

Pour the bag’s contents PLUS the hot cereal into the Magic Bullet blender.

Blend the mixture, pour it into a bowl, and eat. YUM.

This, together with my usual berry-banana-OJ-Metamucil smoothie, completed my morning activity.

Where did my idea come from? It turns out that yesterday we went to see Frozen 3D with a friend, Charlene. After the movie, Charlene spoke of her experiences with Ayurveda, a system developed by the Indian guru, Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra.

Ayurveda says that cooked apples, eaten first thing in the morning, help to create “Ojas,” the final and most refined by-product of digestion. Ojas is alleged to contribute to enhanced vitality, strength, immunity and overall well-being.

According to Ayurveda, it is recommended that fruits be eaten first thing in the morning, 30 minutes before other breakfast items such as hot cereal. I will think of something to do for 30 minutes after drinking my blended-fruit smoothie.

I’ve got it: 5 minutes to cut up and microwave my apple,

5 minutes to prepare and microwave my Quaker hot cereal,

10 minutes to clean up the kitchen and wash any dishes in the sink, and 10 minutes to meditate about the state of my Ojas, and about

which 3D movie to see next.

Bon Appétit!
