Re “Store That Refused to Refund $20 to a Special Needs Student”
Regarding the story I posted on Monday about the retail store refusing to refund $20 for a tee-shirt that a wheelchair-bound special needs student from Culver City High School tried to return:
Cooler heads have prevailed.
My op-ed brought an outpouring of support from the Culver City community. I wanted to give the owner of the retail store a chance to realize how much bad publicity he would get for not refunding $20 for an unused tee-shirt. I left a copy of the article at the store, and I was told that the special needs student could get his money back.
I commended the store for doing the right thing. I will not embarrass them by giving out their name.
Meanwhile, Charles Deen wrote me a letter showing support and offering to give four Dodger ticket vouchers to the special needs students. Unfortunately, I am not authorized to give out tickets for a field trip to Dodger Stadium. Hopefully, the School District can accept them and put them to good use for our special needs students.
Meanwhile, here is the letter I received from Mr. Deen:
Good afternoon Mr. Z,
Your op-ed prompted me to provide this offer. I have four vouchers that would have be used prior to May 15. Do you have four kids who could use a field trip?
If yes, I will get you the necessary letter and the four vouchers.
